NO SIXTH SUBCIRCUIT VACANCY IN 2010, BUT OUR CAMPAIGN CONTINUES ON . . .
As we move forward toward another election year, I would like to express my deep appreciation and gratitude for the continued interest, inquiries, and support. I could not have begun nor continued this campaign without all of your loyalty and support.
As part of my endeavor to get on the bench, I am continuing my efforts to be appointed as an Associate Judge for Cook County. Recently, the Associate Judge appointments have been occurring about every 12 months. I have been solidifying my judicial relationships and continuing my involvement with the bar associations in furtherance of this goal.
In the meantime, I had every intention of running for election again in February, 2010. However, it now appears that our Sixth (6th) Subcircuit has no openings and no judicial vacancies for this upcoming election (except for the possibility of a last minute vacancy or retirement).
As an alternative, I seriously contemplated running countywide (as there are several countywide seats available in this election). However, a countywide Democratic judicial candidate in Cook County needs in excess of 3,200 signatures (as opposed to 500 for a Subcircuit seat); and, to be safe, a candidate should have at least twice the required signatures to make sure that he gets on the ballot. Unfortunately, I do not believe that we are currently prepared to run countywide, and I truly believe that it would be difficult for us at this late juncture.
So, I am disappointed to announce that I will not be running in February, 2010, but we will keep the campaign and our election committee intact. We will simply be awaiting our next opportunity, and when that next opportunity arises, we will seize the day.
Until then, I want to thank you for all of your assistance and support.
