Biography
Stuart M. Brody was born in 1965 in Highland Park, Illinois, and has been a lifetime resident of Cook County. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1987 with bachelor’s degrees in both political science and economics. While attending U. of I., he served as an officer of the Pre-Law Club.
Stuart received his law degree in 1990 from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, finishing in the top twenty percent. During law school, he began gaining legal experience as a law clerk and summer associate for the Chicago litigation firm of William J. Sneckenberg & Associates, Ltd. This experience helped him land a teaching assistantship for a lawyering skills class in pretrial litigation. In 1991, Stuart became a Lecturer of Law at Loyola and taught pretrial litigation for two years, becoming one of the law school's only graduates at that time to return to teach within one year after graduation.
After receiving his law degree, Stuart joined the Sneckenberg law firm as an associate. In 1995, he became a partner in the firm and has remained there ever since. In 2004, he was elevated to name partner when the firm was renamed Sneckenberg, Thompson & Brody, LLP.
Currently, Stuart continues his private practice in civil litigation, having tried over 80 matters, including jury and bench trials, arbitrations, and appeals to the appellate and supreme courts. He has concentrated his practice in insurance law, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in property insurance, auto insurance, fraud investigations, commercial liability, and subrogation lawsuits. He has represented numerous clients in landlord-tenant disputes, contract matters, and business and commercial litigation. In addition, he has fought for individual victims in personal injury claims, medical malpractice, and employment/labor disputes.
Stuart is admitted to practice in the Illinois state and federal courts and is also licensed in the state of Colorado. His professional memberships include: Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, American Bar Association, Women's Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice (AAJ
, f/k/a the American Trial Lawyers Association), the Boiler and Machinery Insurance Association of Chicago, and the prestigious Society of Trial Lawyers.
Since 2002, Stuart has served as a judge for several local and national competitions, including the ABA National Moot Court Competition, ABA Law Student National Negotiation/Mediation Competition Finals, CBA Moot Court Competition, and the AAJ Trial Advocacy Competition.
Stuart is married to Amanda Norcross, and they are the proud parents of a one-year-old son, Jonathan. Outside the legal world, Stuart has been a volunteer veterinarian assistant for medical exams at the Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago. He loves reading and has a passion for sports, including golf, basketball, baseball, and hockey.
